Travelers heading to and from Cairns, Australia, can look forward to more convenient options as Fiji Airways has unveiled a new direct route connecting Nadi, Fiji, to Cairns, scheduled to begin on April 10, 2025. This new service will operate three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, greatly reducing layover times for passengers.

Fiji Airways’ Managing Director and CEO, André Viljoen, expressed enthusiasm for the expansion, highlighting that it provides greater travel options and enhanced connectivity for customers. He emphasized the attraction of Northern Australia, stating, “This route also offers convenient onward connections from Cairns to Dallas via Nadi, making it easier than ever for travelers to access North America.”

Cairns Airport’s CEO, Richard Barker, described the announcement as a transformative development for the region. He noted that it not only facilitates travel for locals seeking holiday opportunities in the South Pacific but also enhances access to North America through the Fiji Airways network.

Queensland’s Tourism Minister, Andrew Powell, further acknowledged the positive impact this service will have on local tourism, projecting an influx of approximately 26,593 inbound passengers annually. This influx is expected to generate over $12 million in overnight visitor spending and create around 130 jobs, both directly and indirectly. Powell also mentioned potential benefits for Fijian students and their families, as well as new freight opportunities for exports like fresh produce and seafood.

The service will utilize Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, and special introductory fares starting at FJD $799 Lite and FJD $899 Value for return trips will be available for booking until November 26, 2024.

In summary, the launch of the direct route between Nadi and Cairns represents a significant opportunity for travelers and the regions involved, enhancing connectivity, boosting tourism, and fostering local economies.

This new airline route is a hopeful sign of expanding travel opportunities and economic growth, showing how aviation can link communities and stimulate international relations.
