Diplomatic Visit Sparks Controversy: Media’s Response Under Fire

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed its gratitude to the New Zealand Government for the smooth coordination of arrangements during Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s visit. This appreciation comes after some media outlets used racially charged language regarding two New Zealanders who were part of the Prime Minister’s security detail. Fiji’s High Commission in New Zealand clarified that these two individuals were part of a larger team representing a diverse cross-section of New Zealand society. The High Commission recognized their professionalism, transparency, and meticulousness in their duties. They emphasized that all members of the New Zealand security team assigned to the Prime Minister were provided directly by the New Zealand Government. Despite some adjustments to the schedule, the visit was conducted without any incidents.
