Diplomacy Beyond Borders: The Soul of Success

British High Commissioner to Fiji, Dr. Brian Jones, emphasized that diplomacy is more about how one makes others feel rather than just grand gestures. He made these remarks during the graduation ceremony of 16 participants from the Basic Diplomacy Training program in Suva.

The eight-month program included individuals from diverse sectors who committed their weekends to enhance their skills and knowledge. Dr. Jones expressed admiration for the dedication shown by the graduates, recognizing their efforts to improve themselves and contribute to their communities.

He highlighted the importance of maintaining a diplomatic approach in all interactions, whether in negotiations, interviews, or everyday conversations. Dr. Jones pointed out that making others feel valued and respected can lead to success in various career paths.

Reflecting on his own experiences, he noted the significance of leaving a positive impression on everyone he meets, as you never know when you might encounter them again. He encouraged the graduates to focus on self-improvement and to serve as role models in their respective fields, including government, business, and international relations.
