Digicel’s Game-Changer: Starlink Enterprise Internet Lands in Fiji

Digicel Fiji has introduced its Digicel Pacific Starlink Enterprise Internet service for enterprise customers, made possible through a reseller agreement with Starlink via its parent company, Telstra.

The new service will be part of Digicel Fiji’s range of enterprise solutions, enhancing its existing product offering. Shally Jannif, the chief executive officer for Digicel’s regional Pacific HUB Markets, expressed that collaborating with Starlink showcases Digicel’s commitment to innovation and the provision of advanced solutions to customers. He added that the inclusion of Starlink’s enterprise services in Fiji will significantly improve their connectivity offerings.

Starlink operates a network of broadband Internet satellites positioned in low earth orbit (LEO), and it is the first company to establish such a constellation. Digicel pointed out that the advantages of LEO satellites lie in their closeness to Earth, resulting in lowered latency and enhanced data throughput when compared to traditional geostationary (GEO) satellite solutions. This development paves the way for customers needing low-latency connections for online meetings, presentations, and video calls.

Farid Mohammed, CEO of Digicel Fiji, noted that the rise of LEO satellites marks an exciting advancement in satellite technology. He mentioned that the Starlink Enterprise Internet plans are designed specifically for businesses, offering tailored options to address various requirements.

Mr. Mohammed also stated that their team has been conducting field tests of Starlink’s service to identify the best way to offer it to enterprise clients. The trials have shown that the service is a viable choice for companies that require reliable internet access in areas lacking traditional coverage.

While fiber-based connectivity meets the needs of most businesses, the integration of Starlink connectivity allows Digicel Fiji to provide high-speed internet access in remote locations where conventional technologies may not be practical.
