Digicel Fiji is celebrating its 16th anniversary in the country with various festivities, including the launch of an Epic Sweet 16 birthday giveaway and community grants amounting to $48,000.
Since its establishment in 2008, Digicel has transformed Fiji’s telecommunications landscape by breaking the existing monopoly, reducing call rates, and improving mobile access for the local population.
Farid Mohammed, the CEO of Digicel Fiji, acknowledged the support of customers and highlighted the company’s impact on lowering communication costs by providing competition to established providers. He noted that over the past 16 years, Digicel has invested nearly $500 million to enhance network infrastructure, ensuring that over 90 percent of the population has reliable connectivity, even in remote locations such as Natewa, Rabi, and the Lau Group.
In celebration of this significant milestone, Digicel Fiji is offering three community grants of $16,000 each, demonstrating its commitment to social responsibility and support for local initiatives. Interested organizations can apply through the Digicel website.
Additionally, the Epic Sweet 16 celebration includes over $160,000 in cash giveaways, instant cash-back offers, and various prizes for customers. Through the MyCash service, users can receive an instant five percent cash-back on transactions at select retailers and also benefit from discounts on mobile phone purchases and services.
Mr. Mohammed emphasized the company’s dedication to empowering Fijians with this birthday giveaway. “This promotion offers a wide range of prizes and community grants for everyone to enjoy,” he remarked.
