Digicel Fiji has recently announced the recipient projects of its 16th anniversary Community Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, granting $16,000 each to three community projects located in the Northern, Central, and Western regions of Fiji. This initiative emphasizes Digicel Fiji’s ongoing dedication to CSR, with a focus on supporting community-driven projects that enhance local empowerment and promote sustainable development.
Shally Jannif, the CEO of Digicel Pacific Regional HUB Markets, expressed enthusiasm for the projects, stating that they reflect a commitment to giving back to communities and investing in initiatives that yield enduring benefits for local citizens. Ms. Jannif remarked that celebrating 16 years in Fiji is significant, highlighting the importance of contributing to the future of these communities.
The awarded projects include the installation of sustainable solar energy systems for Mokani Village, the establishment of the Nadroga/Navosa Resource Centre, and the deployment of solar streetlights in Karoko Village. Joeli Vueti, an advisor for the Mokani Youth Club, described their solar project as a transformative effort that will enhance safety and empowerment within their community. He emphasized the project’s benefit in providing reliable energy for essential facilities and creating safer environments.
The Nadroga/Navosa Resource Centre, coordinated by Amete Volavola from Soqosoqo Vakamarama, aims to be a hub for income-generating activities such as a cafeteria and traditional craft sales, fulfilling a long-held community vision. Meanwhile, Josefa Matagasau from Karoko Village expressed gratitude for the solar streetlight project, which will improve safety and showcase the potential of renewable energy.
