Devastating Blaze Leaves 22 Homeless in Nasinu

A fire on Tuesday, September 3, has left twenty-two individuals displaced in the Caubati area of Nasinu after two wooden homes were destroyed. The National Fire Authority received an emergency call at 9:59 AM, prompting swift responses from crews at the Valelevu, Suva, and Nakasi Fire Stations.

The blaze was reported to be under control by 11:12 AM, having inflicted over 95% structural damage to both residences. One home was inhabited by 17 people, while the other accommodated 5.

An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the fire. Puamau Sowane, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Fire Authority, emphasized the significance of fire safety and advised homeowners to utilize appropriate building materials and engage licensed electricians to prevent electrical faults, which are a primary cause of residential fires.
