The Ministry of Health is undertaking an evaluation following the death of a 23-year-old man after a dental extraction at the Taveuni Dental Clinic. Health Minister Dr. Atonio Lalabalavu stated that the purpose of this evaluation is to assess the procedures and practices surrounding the extraction to understand what may have contributed to the tragic outcome. He indicated that updates will be provided as the review continues.
Dr. Lalabalavu mentioned that an investigation would only be initiated if formal complaints arise regarding the incident, adding that there are established protocols that must be adhered to. Currently, he has not received any complaints related to the case. The family of the deceased is reportedly too upset to make any statements to the media.
