The Ministry of Health is currently assessing the circumstances surrounding the death of a 23-year-old individual who passed away following a tooth extraction at the Taveuni Dental Clinic. Health Minister Dr. Atonio Lalabalavu noted that the evaluation intends to analyze the relevant procedures and practices performed during the extraction to identify any factors that may have contributed to this tragic outcome.
Dr. Atonio emphasized that updates will be provided as the evaluation continues. He also mentioned that a formal investigation would only be initiated if there are complaints filed regarding the incident, stating, “There are certain procedures needed to be followed.” He confirmed that so far, no complaints have been received in relation to the case.
The family of the deceased has not commented publicly, as they are said to be too heartbroken to speak to the media.
