The i-Taukei Land Trust Board (TLTB) is urging its tenants to address any outstanding rental arrears in accordance with their lease agreements. A reminder has been issued, noting that a grace period of 30 days, which will conclude on November 30, was previously provided.
In a recent announcement, TLTB indicated that their Estates Teams from various regional and sub-regional offices, including locations such as Suva, Sigatoka, Nadi, and Lautoka, will be visiting tenants who have fallen behind on payments to assess their efforts in settling these debts.
TLTB has previously sent out reminders about the importance of adhering to payment schedules in order to maintain the validity of lease contracts. To further support tenants in clearing their dues, TLTB has engaged with commercial banks to explore financial assistance options.
Timely payment is crucial, as the rental income from tenants directly benefits landowners who rely on these funds for their livelihoods. The board emphasized that the upcoming deadline marks a critical point, beyond which they may take enforcement actions, including potential land repossession.
Tenants are strongly encouraged to utilize the remaining grace period to resolve their arrears and avoid any negative repercussions. TLTB expressed the need for tenants’ cooperation and commitment to uphold their lease responsibilities, ensuring that landowners receive their rightful revenue.
As the deadline approaches, there is hope that tenants will proactively engage in resolving their outstanding payments, fostering a more constructive relationship between them and TLTB while supporting the local landowners’ economic stability.
