The i-Taukei Land Trust Board (TLTB) has urged its tenants to start addressing outstanding rental payments as stipulated in their lease agreements. A 30-day grace period, which will conclude on November 30, has already been granted to allow tenants to settle their arrears.
In their announcement, TLTB stated that its Estates Teams across various regional and sub-regional offices—including those in Suva, Sigatoka, Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Rakiraki, Korovou, Nausori, Labasa, and Savusavu—will conduct follow-up visits to evaluate the progress tenants are making towards clearing their debts.
Previously, TLTB issued notices and reminders regarding overdue payments, stressing the importance of compliance to maintain the validity of lease agreements. To support tenants in managing their financial responsibilities, TLTB has collaborated with commercial banks to provide options for financial assistance.
Timely rental payments are crucial for ensuring that landowners receive the income they depend on for their livelihoods. TLTB has made it clear that after the grace period ends, there may be enforcement actions taken, which could result in the repossession of land.
The board strongly encourages tenants to utilize this grace period wisely and settle their arrears to avoid any negative repercussions. TLTB is committed to fostering cooperation among tenants to help them fulfill their lease obligations while protecting the revenue that landowners rightfully deserve.
In a hopeful message, TLTB’s proactive approach serves not just to remind tenants of their responsibilities but also to facilitate solutions through financial support, highlighting the community’s collective effort to ensure stability for both tenants and landowners. This commitment can ultimately strengthen relationships within the community and ensure the sustainability of land leases.
