The i-Taukei Land Trust Board (TLTB) is urging its tenants to address outstanding rent arrears according to the terms of their leases. In a recent statement, TLTB highlighted that a 30-day grace period for payments will come to a close on November 30.

TLTB has indicated that their Estates Teams across various Regional and Sub-Regional Offices—including locations in Suva, Sigatoka, Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Rakiraki, Korovou, Nausori, Labasa, and Savusavu—will be visiting tenants who are in arrears to monitor progress on their outstanding payments.

Previously, TLTB sent notices and reminders about unpaid dues, underlining that compliance is crucial to maintain valid lease agreements. To assist tenants who may be struggling financially, TLTB has partnered with commercial banks to explore options for financial aid.

Timely payment is essential not only for tenants to uphold their lease agreements but also for the landowners who rely on lease revenues for their livelihoods. TLTB emphasized that after the grace period ends, they may initiate enforcement actions that could lead to the repossession of properties if tenants do not settle their arrears.

The TLTB’s message encourages tenants to use this grace period to rectify their payment issues and avoid serious consequences while affirming the importance of honoring their lease commitments.

Overall, this call to action serves as a reminder of the mutual responsibilities in lease agreements, highlighting the need for cooperation between tenants and the TLTB to ensure the financial well-being of landowners while also helping tenants navigate their financial responsibilities. It’s a hopeful opportunity for tenants to resolve their issues and secure their leases moving forward.
