The i-Taukei Land Trust Board (TLTB) is urging tenants to clear their outstanding rental arrears in accordance with their lease agreements. The TLTB announced that a 30-day grace period has been provided and will come to an end on November 30.
In a recent statement, TLTB highlighted that their Estates Teams across various Regional and Sub-Regional Offices, including Suva, Sigatoka, Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Rakiraki, Korovou, Nausori, Labasa, and Savusavu, will be conducting follow-up visits to tenants in arrears. These visits aim to evaluate how tenants are addressing their payment obligations.
The organization has previously issued notices and reminders regarding the arrears, stressing the importance of compliance to maintain valid lease agreements. In an effort to support tenants, TLTB has also reached out to commercial banks to explore financial assistance options.
It is crucial for tenants to cooperate, as timely rental payments are essential for landowners who rely on this income for their livelihoods. The end of the grace period on November 30 may lead to enforcement actions, including the possibility of land repossession. Tenants are strongly encouraged to settle their debts within this timeframe to avoid such consequences.
TLTB emphasizes the importance of tenants’ commitment to fulfilling their lease obligations, ensuring that landowners receive the revenue they are entitled to.
This situation presents an opportunity for tenants to address their financial commitments and continue enjoying the benefits of their leases, while also supporting the wellbeing of landowners who depend on these rental payments. By actively engaging with TLTB and exploring the financial assistance options available, tenants can pave the way for a stable future.
