Deadline Approaches: TLTB Urges Tenants to Clear Rental Arrears Before November 30

The i-Taukei Land Trust Board (TLTB) is urging tenants to start settling their outstanding rent arrears, in accordance with the terms of their lease agreements. A 30-day grace period, which concludes on November 30, has already been granted to help tenants address their dues.

In a recent statement, TLTB highlighted that their Estates Teams in various Regional and Sub-Regional Offices, including locations in Suva, Sigatoka, Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Rakiraki, Korovou, Nausori, Labasa, and Savusavu, will be conducting follow-up visits to tenants who have fallen behind on their payments. The purpose of these visits is to evaluate what steps tenants are taking to rectify their outstanding balances.

Previously, TLTB issued notices and reminders regarding overdue rent, stressing the importance of compliance to maintain valid lease agreements. To assist tenants in managing their financial obligations, TLTB has also engaged with commercial banks to facilitate access to financial assistance.

The Board emphasized that timely cooperation from tenants is crucial, as it ensures that lease payments are collected and disbursed to landowners, who rely on this income for their livelihoods. They cautioned that after the grace period ends on November 30, TLTB may need to take enforcement actions, potentially including the repossession of the land.
