Dark Web Shock: 100 Students Selling Themselves in Fiji

Nearly 100 students in the Nadi area have been reported to be offering sexual services on the dark web platform Telegram, according to Alice Fong, the Divisional Counsellor for the Ministry of Education in the West.

Fong made this disclosure during her address at the Arya Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji Women’s Conference in Lautoka on Saturday. She shared details from a file provided by the Nadi Police Station after her recent visit to a local school.

“There is a social media application called Telegram that serves as a dark platform where young individuals post pictures and videos engaging in sexual acts, inviting others to join them for a good time,” Fong stated.

She highlighted alarming instances where individuals are solicited to purchase items like a $100 recharge card or pay for a hotel room. Among the concerning cases, Fong mentioned that the youngest individual involved was a primary school student.

“This issue is specific to Nadi, where the police reported 100 active students involved. However, it’s plausible that students in other districts across Fiji may also participate in this activity,” she warned.

Fong urged parents to closely monitor their children’s online activities, emphasizing the urgency of addressing this troubling trend.
