Dark Web Horror: 100 Students Selling Themselves in Fiji

Nearly 100 school students in the Nadi area have been reported as offering sexual services on the dark web platform known as Telegram, according to Alice Fong, the Divisional Counsellor for the Ministry of Education in the West.

Fong shared this alarming information during her address at the Arya Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji Women’s Conference held in Lautoka on Saturday. She recounted a visit to a local school last month where she received a report from the Nadi Police Station.

“There is a social media app called Telegram, which operates as a dark platform where both boys and girls share their pictures and videos engaging in sexual activities, and solicit individuals to ‘have a good time’ with them,” Fong explained. She detailed that some messages include requests for a $100 recharge card, a new phone, or a hotel room.

She expressed concern after seeing a primary school student among those involved. “This situation is specific to Nadi, but police reports indicate around 100 active students in the district,” she noted.

Fong also cautioned that students from other districts in Fiji may be participating in this activity as well. “Do not think this issue is limited to Nadi or Lautoka. It’s occurring across the country, and I am sharing this based on what I have personally witnessed and learned.”

She urged parents to be vigilant and monitor their children’s online activities.
