During the TOPEX Conference 2024, Alex Teh, CEO of Chillisoft, a cyber-security company based in Auckland, shared insights into the rise of cyber threats, particularly those leveraging Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI). He noted that while cyberattacks are not new, the increasing use of GenAI by cybercriminals marks a troubling development. This technology allows attackers to automate attacks at scale, making it easier for them to breach networks and steal identities by circumventing authentication systems.

Mr. Teh sees the upcoming Google fiber optic project as a potential game changer for Fiji, transforming it into a cybersecurity hub for the Pacific region. This initiative could benefit neighboring countries like Papua New Guinea, Samoa, and Tonga, addressing their cybersecurity needs and utilizing Fiji’s workforce effectively.
