The Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, has confirmed that a report regarding explicit content involving Member of Parliament Lynda Tabuya has been officially lodged at the Totogo Police Station. This content has been circulating on social media without Tabuya’s consent, prompting her to take action by filing a complaint.
According to ACP Driu, the case is under the jurisdiction of the Cyber Crime unit and is currently being investigated. In a significant political development, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka dismissed Lynda Tabuya from her role as Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection just the day before. The Prime Minister indicated that he made this decision after careful consideration, invoking Section 92(3)(b) of the Constitution.
Despite her removal from ministerial responsibilities, Lynda Tabuya will retain her position as a Member of Parliament.
This incident highlights the pressing issue of privacy and consent in the digital age, as well as the challenges public figures face regarding their personal lives. It serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting individuals from non-consensual dissemination of sensitive information. The ongoing investigation by the Cyber Crime unit is a positive step toward addressing such violations and ensuring accountability.
