The Ministry of Health & Medical Services has announced that new replacement lifts for the Colonial War Memorial Hospital (CWMH) are set to arrive next month, addressing concerns regarding the non-operational patient lift at the facility. The Ministry is collaborating with its contracted service providers and relevant government agencies, including the Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Meteorological Services, to resolve the issues with the lift.

The malfunctioning lift, located in the West Wing of CWMH, has been in service for over fifteen years and was initially purchased from the OTIS Elevator Company of New Zealand. Engineers from OTIS are currently on-site to repair the non-functional lift, as the company is also contracted for ongoing maintenance of CWMH’s lifts.

Recognizing the urgent need to modernize the hospital’s aging lift systems, the Ministry has secured government funding and is in the process of procuring replacements for all outdated lifts at CWMH. These specialized hospital lifts are essential for transporting patients, staff, and medical equipment while ensuring adherence to safety and infection control standards.

The breakdown of the lift has unfortunately disrupted care for patients on the affected ward, causing frustration for both patients and healthcare staff. The Ministry is appealing to patients and their families for patience and understanding as it works diligently to enhance healthcare infrastructure across the country.

This proactive approach from the Ministry not only tackles immediate lift issues but also indicates a long-term commitment to improving healthcare facilities, ultimately leading to better patient care and service delivery. With the imminent arrival of new lifts, there is a hopeful prospect for more efficient and comfortable healthcare experiences for everyone involved.

In summary, the Ministry’s actions reflect a dedicated effort toward improving health services infrastructure, ensuring that the needs of patients and healthcare providers are met with the utmost priority.
