The Ministry of Health and Medical Services has announced that new replacement lifts for the Colonial War Memorial Hospital (CWMH) are set to arrive in the country next month. This decision comes in response to ongoing issues with a non-functional patient lift at the hospital.
The Ministry is actively collaborating with its contracted service providers, including the OTIS Elevator Company from New Zealand, as well as relevant government agencies, to resolve the lift problems. The lift in question, which has been operational for over fifteen years, is situated in the West Wing of the hospital. Currently, engineers from OTIS are on-site at CWM Hospital to assist in restoring the lift to functionality.
Recognizing the pressing need for modernization, the Ministry had earlier identified the requirement to replace aging lifts at CWMH and has since initiated procurement processes following a government-approved funding allocation. This proactive approach aims to ensure that all existing and outdated lifts are replaced to enhance patient care and operational efficiency.
The lifts at the hospital play a crucial role, accommodating patients, staff, and essential medical equipment like beds, trolleys, and monitoring devices. It is vital that these lifts adhere to infection prevention standards and are only manufactured once payment has been completed.
The failure of the non-functional lift has caused disruptions in patient care, leading to frustration among patients, their families, and healthcare staff. The Ministry encourages patients and their families to remain patient while they work diligently to address the infrastructure needs across healthcare facilities, ultimately improving healthcare service delivery in the country.
This effort to upgrade hospital facilities reflects the Ministry’s commitment to enhancing patient experiences and ensuring reliable medical services, showcasing a positive step towards improving healthcare standards in the region. The swift action taken by the Ministry and the collaboration with specialized service providers highlight the importance of maintaining quality health services for the community.
