CWM Hospital Lift Upgrade on the Horizon: What You Need to Know

The Ministry of Health & Medical Services has announced that new lifts for the Colonial War Memorial Hospital (CWMH) from the contracted supplier are set to arrive next month. This update comes after concerns were raised about a malfunctioning patient lift at the hospital.

The Ministry is collaborating closely with its service providers and various government agencies, including the Ministry of Public Works, Transport, and Meteorological Services, to address the lift issues. The lift in question, located in the West Wing of CWMH, has been in operation for over fifteen years.

In a recent statement, the Ministry revealed that the affected lift was purchased from the OTIS Elevator Company based in New Zealand. Currently, engineers from OTIS are on-site at CWMH working to restore the lift’s functionality.

OTIS Elevator Company is also responsible for the ongoing servicing of the lifts the company installed at the hospital. The Ministry acknowledged the pressing need to replace the aging lifts at CWMH, and following government funding approval in 2023, it has been actively engaged in procuring new lifts to replace all outdated models.

Hospital lifts play a crucial role in the healthcare system, designed to transport patients, staff, and essential medical equipment safely and efficiently. These specialized machines must also meet infection prevention and control standards and are manufactured only after the necessary payments are processed.

The breakdown of the non-functional lift has impacted patient care, causing delays that have frustrated patients, their families, and the staff. In light of these challenges, the Ministry urges patients, families, and caregivers to be patient as they work diligently to improve the infrastructure of healthcare facilities across the country.

This proactive approach by the Ministry promises a positive development for healthcare services at CWMH, as the upcoming replacement lifts will enhance patient care and operational efficiency in the hospital. The commitment to improving health infrastructure reflects a dedication to quality healthcare and the well-being of the community.
