Cuvu College’s under-18 rugby team is preparing for their much-anticipated semi-final match against Nasinu Secondary School in the Fiji Secondary School Vodafone Deans tournament, set to take place at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. The team is emphasizing not only physical readiness but also spiritual preparation as they approach this important game.
After a thrilling 23-22 win over Ratu Kadavulevu School (RKS) last weekend, the players are focused on more than just their physical abilities. Spiritual preparation has emerged as a critical part of their strategy.
“We thank God for the victory over RKS. We are prioritizing our spiritual preparation because that is our main source of strength,” stated principal Manoj Vikash.
The Cuvu community has come together to support the team, with villagers and school management providing accommodations and meals while the team is camped at Voua village in anticipation of the semi-final.
Principal Vikash expressed gratitude towards school manager Mun Reddy and president Dhiren Lal for their exceptional contributions to the U18 team. “We appreciate the kindness and support from these two gentlemen, who have done a lot for our team,” he said.
Vikash emphasized that the primary focus is on the students’ development as rugby players. “Our school’s vision is to prepare these students for their future in rugby, and winning would be an added bonus. We hold great respect for Nasinu and recognize that it will be a challenging match,” he remarked.
Additionally, several players from the Cuvu U18 team are competing in the Nadroga rugby club matches, receiving encouragement from the Nadroga Rugby Union.
The team is guided by coach Samisoni Navatu, an alumnus and brother of former player Nemani Nagusa. The semi-finals are scheduled for Saturday.
