“Crushing the Drug Trade: Fiji’s Tough Stance on Illicit Activities”

Home Affairs Minister Pio Tikoduadua has declared that those involved in illicit activities, particularly the drug trade, should face severe consequences. During a recent media conference in Suva, he emphasized the need to address the presence of individuals engaging in harmful practices, stating, “Bad people need to be crushed.”

Minister Tikoduadua affirmed that while Fiji enjoys relative peace, there are still individuals involved in drug-related offenses that pose a threat to society. He maintained that the situation regarding law and order is not in disarray, but highlighted the importance of taking a firm stance against drug dealers.

“The government acknowledges that tackling the drug issue cannot be achieved alone. We are committed to supporting civil society organizations through our narcotics strategy,” he added. Tikoduadua stressed the necessity of collaboration with NGOs, community organizations, and faith-based groups, which play a crucial role in community engagement.

He called upon community members—parents, religious organizations, and local leaders—to take the initiative in addressing the drug issue, while the government provides strategies and resources. “The vanua, the church, and the community must lead the efforts,” he concluded.
