Twenty-one-year-old Bulou Buteiove recently celebrated a significant milestone in her life when she was crowned Miss Vodafone Fiji Coral Coast Carnival 2024 in Sigatoka Town. Acknowledging her mother as the most influential person in her life, Buteiove expressed gratitude to God for the strength and support that led her to this achievement.
“I dedicate this crown to my mother, who is my pillar of strength, as well as my family and the vanua o Nasama, Nadroga,” said Buteiove. She highlighted the importance of love and generosity, noting that her platform allows her to promote these values. A former student at Adi Cakobau School, she is now a second-year student at the National University of Fiji, pursuing a degree in primary education with aspirations of becoming a teacher.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Viliame Gavoka, served as the chief guest at the event. He emphasized the significance of this year’s carnival theme, “Breaking the Waves of Addiction,” stating that it is both timely and crucial. Gavoka likened addiction to relentless ocean waves that can undermine individuals, families, and communities, but encouraged unity in overcoming this challenge.
“Breaking the waves of addiction requires a collective response; a community anchored in resilience and driven by compassion,” Gavoka asserted. He highlighted the Coral Coast’s beauty and role in Fiji’s tourism, underlining its importance in blending environmental care with cultural celebration.
This event not only showcases talent and beauty but also emphasizes critical societal issues, fostering hope and resilience within the community. Buteiove’s dedication to her family and her ambition to affect positive change as an aspiring educator reflects a promising future for both her and the community.
In summary, the Miss Vodafone Fiji Coral Coast Carnival not only honored a young woman’s achievement but also served as a platform for raising awareness about addiction, reinforcing the community’s commitment to resilience and support.
