Jiya Jaanvi Prasad, a 20-year-old student, is dedicated to combating drug addiction through awareness and compassion. Sponsored by Rainbow Cool Tech, she is participating in the Vodafone Fiji Coral Coast Carnival in Sigatoka, where seven contestants are joining forces to address this pressing issue.
“This week at the Coral Coast Carnival, we are standing united against drug addiction,” Ms. Prasad expressed. She is participating in a pageant for the first time and sees this as an opportunity to promote hope, recovery, and support in a battle that affects many individuals and families.
“By raising awareness and offering compassion, we can help break the chains of addiction and create a brighter, healthier future for all. Together, we are stronger in this fight,” she emphasized. Her commitment to this cause is further supported by her parents, Abhinesh and Ranjileen Prasad, who are both active in the tourism industry.
Originating from Maro, Nadroga, Ms. Prasad attended Tuva Primary School and Nadroga Arya College. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts and a Graduate Certificate in Education at the University of the South Pacific, with aspirations to become a lawyer.
Committee secretary Ramesh Naidu noted that this carnival marks the fourth consecutive year the event has taken place, with the crowning ceremony scheduled for this Saturday.
This initiative not only highlights the importance of tackling the issue of drug addiction but also showcases the young generation’s commitment to building a supportive community. The unity displayed at the carnival symbolizes hope and determination in the ongoing fight against addiction.
Overall, it’s encouraging to see young leaders like Jiya taking a stand and fostering a conversation around such critical social issues, illustrating that positive change is possible when people come together for a common cause.
