Twenty-one-year-old Bulou Buteiove celebrated a significant milestone in her life as she was crowned Miss Vodafone Fiji Coral Coast Carnival 2024 last Saturday in Sigatoka Town. During the event, she expressed heartfelt gratitude towards her mother, whom she described as the most important person in her life. Sponsored by Super Delivery Suva, Ms. Buteiove acknowledged the role of faith in her journey and dedicated her victory to her mother, family, and the vanua of Nasama, Nadroga.
In her speech, Ms. Buteiove highlighted her mother’s unwavering support, stating, “She has been and always will be my rock.” She emphasized the importance of using her platform to promote love and generosity. The former student of Adi Cakobau School is currently a second-year primary education student at the National University of Fiji, aspiring to impact future generations as a teacher.
The Chief Guest, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Viliame Gavoka, noted that this year’s carnival theme, “Breaking the Waves of Addiction,” resonates deeply with current societal challenges. He compared addiction to relentless ocean waves that threaten to undermine personal and communal stability, urging the need for a collective response to address this pressing issue.
Gavoka expressed optimism, stating that just as the Coral Coast stands resilient against the tides, communities can unite to overcome addiction, fostering hope and renewal. He also underscored tourism’s vital role in Fiji’s economy, highlighting the Coral Coast as a key attraction that captivates visitors with its stunning beauty and rich cultural heritage.
This event not only celebrated individual achievement but also brought attention to the significant issues affecting communities, encouraging a united front against addiction while promoting the beauty and appeal of Fiji’s tourism sector.
With a brighter future ahead for both Ms. Buteiove and her community, this carnival serves as a reminder of the power of resilience and unity in facing life’s challenges.
