Crowning Glory: Miss Hibiscus’ Journey of Faith and Advocacy

Spread the love

Melania Tora, crowned Miss Hibiscus 2024, remained true to her word by attending church to express her gratitude to God following her recent victory. The 24-year-old emphasized the importance of giving thanks and praised God, describing it as essential.

Tora, who has familial ties to Vanuabalavu in Lau, expressed her excitement about celebrating her win with her family in Sabeto. After a church service held at the USP Laucala Campus, she reflected on her journey, acknowledging her imperfections and sharing her personal testimony of faith.

“Being with Jesus is so wonderful. I can do things like these because He is with me, and because He is with me, I know I am victorious with the crown or no crown, since the victory is already with Him,” she stated.

Furthermore, she expressed appreciation for the support she received from her community, noting their encouragement through messages. “For the vanua to stand behind me is something I didn’t know I needed, but I did. I am overwhelmed with love and thank you to everyone that supported me throughout the one week,” she added.

Ms. Tora is committed to advocating for marginalized groups, such as cancer survivors and juveniles, having spent the last two years working within the community. She believes her new platform as Miss Hibiscus will enable her to further support these organizations and drive meaningful change.

She spoke fondly of the experiences shared with fellow contestants, acknowledging the challenges faced along the journey but emphasizing the joy it brought. “It was overwhelming early mornings and many tears along the way, but they were happy tears. I know I have strength in the Lord, and I’m fortunate to have a great support system,” she remarked.

In encouraging future participants, Ms. Tora advised, “If you are considering to participate next year, please do so. It doesn’t matter where you come from or what ethnicity you are. If you feel you have what it takes to make a real difference in the community and to create a platform like my fellow sisters have done, I encourage you to take that risk. It may be uncomfortable, but it is a once in a lifetime, amazing experience.”
