Twenty-one-year-old Bulou Buteiove proudly credited her mother as the most significant influence in her life after being crowned Miss Vodafone Fiji Coral Coast Carnival 2024 on Saturday in Sigatoka Town. Sponsored by Super Delivery Suva, Ms. Buteiove expressed gratitude for the support she received, attributing her success to her faith and the encouragement from her family and the Nasama community in Nadroga.
“I dedicate this crown to my mother, who is my pillar of strength, as well as my family and the vanua o Nasama,” said Ms. Buteiove. She emphasized her mother’s unwavering support, stating, “My mother is special. She has been and always will be my rock.” Ms. Buteiove sees this platform as vital for promoting messages of love and generosity.
A second-year student studying primary education at the National University of Fiji, Ms. Buteiove aspires to become a teacher and share her knowledge with future generations.
The event’s chief guest, Viliame Gavoka, is the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation. He highlighted this year’s theme, “Breaking the Waves of Addiction,” calling it timely and impactful. Mr. Gavoka likened addiction to the relentless ocean waves that can undermine the structure of individuals and communities but stressed the importance of unity and resilience in overcoming these challenges.
“Breaking the waves of addiction requires a collective response; a community anchored in resilience and driven by compassion,” he stated. Mr. Gavoka also underscored the significance of Sigatoka’s Coral Coast as a vital part of Fiji’s tourism industry, combining natural beauty with cultural richness.
