Manshika Prasad, crowned Miss Universe Fiji 2024, faced unexpected turmoil just two days after her victory when confusion arose over her title. The lavish event celebrating her win was marred by serious allegations including vote rigging, sexual assault, and financial misconduct.
Despite the onslaught from a rival contestant, Prasad maintained a dignified silence while accusations continued to circulate in the media. At 23 years old, she opted not to engage in a social media spat as the controversy unfolded. The situation contrasted the legitimacy of her crown and sash with the unfounded claims made by her competitor, which some perceived as bordering on racial attacks.
However, clarity emerged when Ms. Prasad addressed the issue on her Instagram, sharing a glamorous photo of herself in a sleek white gown. She confirmed her participation in the upcoming Miss Universe International pageant in Mexico, stating, “I am going officially as stated by Miss Universe Organisation. See you in Mexico.”
This clarification came after a month of tension that ignited when rival contestant Nadine Roberts sought to challenge Prasad’s title. Roberts, who has familial ties to Fiji, has been persistent in her claims, raising concerns about potential conflicts of interest associated with the event’s licensee. Despite numerous inquiries, Roberts has yet to respond.
Currently preparing for the international competition, Prasad, who is studying for her Master’s in Business Administration in Australia, emphasizes her role as an advocate against violence towards women and girls.
