Sonia Prasad was named Miss Vodafone Rakiraki Carnival 2024 during an event held on Saturday at the Fiji Sugar Corporation grounds in Rakiraki. The 25-year-old, who was sponsored by the Rakiraki Market Vendors Association (RMVA), also claimed several accolades including Miss Best Talents, Miss Best Sarong, and Miss Best Research Topic.
As a staff nurse at Rakiraki Hospital and a former student of Rakiraki Public School, Ms. Prasad used this platform to inspire young women and girls to engage in charitable work. She emphasized the importance of participation, stating, “If I can do it, you can too. These platforms help build leadership skills and boost confidence.”
Prasad shared that her motivation for entering the carnival was to confront her shyness and enhance her self-esteem. “I have never been the type to enter contests and have always been socially awkward. That was why I chose to participate in this carnival to challenge myself,” she explained.
Looking to the future, Ms. Prasad plans to continue her advocacy against illegal drug use, urging the community of Ra to stop as it leads to serious consequences, including death.
