Crowning Change: A Queen’s Quest for Mental Health in Fiji

Access to mental health resources is crucial in addressing domestic violence and drug abuse in Fiji. Esiteri Salele, a 23-year-old member of the Somosomo community in Taveuni, decided to participate in the 2024 Nasinu Town Festival as a queen contestant due to her concern over various social issues in her area. Supported by Pacific Fishing Company Pte Ltd (PAFCO), she is one of seven contestants competing for the title during the week-long festival.

Salele emphasizes the importance of enhancing mental health support and fostering spiritual awakening to improve overall well-being, alleviate stress, and promote healthier family relationships. She advocates for counselling, education, and support services to assist families in navigating their challenges and building resilience.

Additionally, Ms. Salele will focus on the significance of family values in combating unemployment, school dropouts, drug abuse, cyberbullying, and domestic violence in communities. The festival is set to run from August 17 to August 24 at the Valelevu grounds.
