Manshika Prasad, recently crowned Miss Universe Fiji 2024, found herself at the center of controversy just days after her coronation. Following a lavish announcement party, confusion arose when accusations of vote rigging, sexual assault, and financial impropriety emerged in the media.
Despite the intense scrutiny, Prasad, 23, maintained her composure in the face of a lengthy public attack from a fellow contestant. While she remained silent, the public reacted with curiosity about her reluctance to address the allegations directly, which some perceived as unjust and bordering on racism.
Prasad eventually broke her silence through a confident Instagram post, expressing her excitement about representing Fiji at the upcoming Miss Universe International pageant in Mexico. “Counting down days until I’m in Mexico for the 73rd Miss Universe,” she wrote, accompanying her message with a stunning photo of herself in a stylish gown with her crown and sash. She clarified, “I am going officially as stated by Miss Universe Organisation. See you in Mexico.”
The controversy was ignited a month earlier when rival contestant Nadine Roberts aimed to dispute Prasad’s title. Roberts, who has familial ties to Fiji, has been vocal in her claims to dethrone Prasad, raising concerns regarding potential conflicts of interest. Inquiries sent to Roberts went unanswered.
Currently preparing for her international debut, Prasad is dedicated to advocating against violence toward women and girls, while also pursuing her Master’s degree in Business Administration in Australia.
