The Commissioner Northern’s office recently convened a private meeting to address the ongoing water shortage in the division. This gathering brought together important stakeholders to discuss and develop strategies for mitigating the water crisis.
Sakiasi Ditoka, the Minister for Rural, Maritime Development and Disaster Management, stated that the aim was to formulate potential solutions. “Last week, Commissioner Northern Uraia Rainima met with provincial administrators and district officers,” Mr. Ditoka revealed. “They collected information regarding the water shortage and the dry conditions impacting the North.”
Although Mr. Ditoka was not present at the meeting, he was briefed by Mr. Rainima about the discussions held. The meeting featured representatives from the Fiji Meteorological Service office, the Water Authority of Fiji, and the Ministry of Education.
Additionally, participants from the provincial office, Ministry of Health, Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji, and provincial administrators were also anticipated to contribute to the talks.
Mr. Ditoka noted that reports of water issues had come in from the islands of Cikobia, Yacata, Yanuca, and Kia. He mentioned the potential for seeking government assistance by providing a barge to aid in the situation.
