Two 35-year-old men have been arrested in Navua after police discovered dried marijuana leaves and methamphetamine on their person. These arrests occurred as part of a series of snap checks conducted by law enforcement across all five divisions this month.
The first incident took place during a snap check executed by the Southern Division Crime and Intelligence Unit (SD SOCIU), where multiple sachets of methamphetamine and marijuana were seized. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, reported that a raid was conducted last Wednesday in Raiwai, near Suva, leading to the confiscation of substances believed to be methamphetamine, stolen property, and both foreign and local currencies. The two men, along with a woman found with these items, were arrested, and the confiscated materials are currently undergoing analysis.
Additionally, at a Bagasau roadblock in Savusavu, police disturbances led to the discovery of a black bag containing dried leaves suspected to be marijuana, hidden in the luggage compartment of a bus. In the Western Division, on a recent Monday night, police arrested two vehicle passengers after seizing branches of dried leaves also believed to be marijuana at a Sabeto Road checkpoint in Nadi.
Assistant Commissioner Driu emphasized that the ongoing snap checks are producing positive results and will continue throughout the five police divisions.
This proactive approach by law enforcement highlights their commitment to combating drug-related offenses, with ongoing efforts likely to enhance community safety and wellbeing. The collaboration between different police units signifies a unified strategy to address substance abuse and illegal trafficking within the region.
Overall, these findings demonstrate law enforcement’s dedication to maintaining public safety, and with continued vigilance, we can hope to see a reduction in drug-related crime in the future.
