Crackdown: Twelve Arrested in Major Drug Sweep

Twelve individuals were apprehended over the past 48 hours on charges of illegal possession of illicit drugs.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu reported that several bags containing a white substance, suspected to be methamphetamine, were confiscated from a residence in Namara, Labasa, leading to the arrest of three men who are now in custody. Additionally, over $1,000 in cash, believed to be tied to criminal activities, was seized.

In the Western Division, a 26-year-old man in Lautoka was found in possession of two bags containing white crystals, presumed to be methamphetamine, along with some dried leaves suspected to be marijuana.

In Rakiraki town, four men were arrested after authorities discovered numerous sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana and several bags containing white crystals thought to be methamphetamine. Two other men were arrested in Lautoka for having separate collections of sachets with dried leaves suspected to be marijuana.

A 29-year-old man in Nadi was also taken into custody when police found plants and seedlings that were believed to be marijuana. This morning, a raid in Tavakubu, Lautoka, conducted by a team of K9 officers resulted in the seizure of white substances suspected to be methamphetamine, leading to the arrest of a 44-year-old man.

Assistant Commissioner Driu emphasized the ongoing efforts of the police divisions to focus on suspected drug dealers. “We remain dedicated to disrupting and destabilizing the illicit drug trade, with operations being conducted simultaneously across all five divisions. We encourage the public to continue sharing information, as every detail aids in curbing the supply,” he stated.
