Twelve individuals were taken into custody over a 48-hour period for suspected illegal drug possession.
Livai Driu, the Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, reported that a raid at a residence in Namara, Labasa, resulted in the seizure of several plastic bags containing a white substance believed to be methamphetamine. Three men were arrested at the scene, and more than $1,000 in cash, suspected to be related to criminal activity, was also confiscated.
In the Western Division of Lautoka, a 26-year-old man was apprehended after authorities discovered two plastic bags with white crystals thought to be methamphetamine, along with packages of dried leaves presumed to be marijuana.
Additionally, four men were detained in Rakiraki town after multiple sachets of dried leaves, suspected to be marijuana, and several plastic bags with white crystals of methamphetamine were found.
In separate incidents, two more men in Lautoka were arrested for possessing sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana. In Nadi, a 29-year-old man was taken into custody after plants and seedlings believed to be marijuana were discovered.
This morning, a K9 team conducted a raid in Tavakubu, Lautoka, seizing substances believed to be methamphetamine and arresting a 44-year-old man in the process.
Assistant Commissioner Driu emphasized that police operations are actively targeting suspected drug dealers. He stated, “We remain committed to disrupting the illegal drug trade with coordinated efforts across all five divisions. We encourage the public to share any information, as it contributes to reducing the supply of illicit drugs.”
