The High Court in Suva has instructed Veronica Malani to ensure that her lawyer is present at the next court session as they aim to schedule a hearing. During a recent appearance before Justice Usaia Ratuvili, Malani was without her attorney, Sitiveni Raikanikoda, who was attending to another matter at the Nasinu Magistrate’s Court.

Defense attorney Ronal Singh expressed his frustration in court, noting that they had already submitted their application to strike out Malani’s claim and were poised to arrange a hearing date. Singh pointed out that this was not the first time Raikanikoda had missed proceedings, and he criticized the absence for not providing alternative hearing dates.

The Attorney-General’s office has been given two weeks to prepare their application to dismiss Malani’s substantial claim of $800,244 million. In contrast, attorney Mohammed Saneem indicated that they were not ready to proceed with the same application as it was not properly established.

Justice Ratuvili has adjourned the case to next Wednesday, aiming to set a hearing date then. Malani’s lawsuit targets 11 individuals linked to the investigation of the infamous 1987 bombing case, with her claim amounting to a staggering $800,244 million.

This ongoing legal battle sheds light on the complexities surrounding long-standing cases and the importance of adequate legal representation. The Court’s directive to ensure that legal counsel is present emphasizes the judicial system’s commitment to a fair process, which is vital for both parties involved. As the case progresses, it will be essential to see how it unfolds and what implications it may have for all individuals involved.

In summary, the High Court is working towards ensuring proper legal representation as the case involving Veronica Malani continues, and it highlights the serious nature of her claims stemming from a historic incident. This could be an opportunity for legal clarity and justice regarding the 1987 case.
