Veronica Malani’s attorney, Sitiveni Raikanikoda, has been granted 14 days to submit an affidavit in response to a strike-out application filed by Neelraj Sharma, a former lawyer for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The civil case, presented before Justice Usaia Ratuvili at the High Court in Suva, involves a compensation claim of $800,244 million from 11 individuals linked to the investigation of the alleged 1987 bombing case that occurred in 2020.

The defendants in the case include several former and current members of the Fiji Police Force along with the DPP. During the court session, Ronald Singh, representing Mr. Sharma, asserted that they had filed a motion to exclude his client from the proceedings, noting that Mr. Sharma is now employed by Munroe Leys Lawyers.

Justice Ratuvili instructed Mr. Raikanikoda to address the application and indicate any evidence regarding his client’s involvement. Mr. Raikanikoda also inquired why two defendants, both retired civil servants, were not represented in court. These defendants are former Acting Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu and retired Assistant Police Commissioner (Crime) Biu Matavou.

Justice Ratuvili stated that the Office of the Attorney-General must provide an explanation regarding their absence during the next court session. The matter has been adjourned until October 9 for further mention.
