Court Drama: Ex-Typist Faces Embezzlement Charges

A former typist from the Family Court Registry is scheduled to return to court on December 3 to establish a hearing date. Seini Rokosamu is facing charges of abuse of office, embezzlement by a servant, and obtaining a financial advantage. These charges were brought against her by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC).

Ms. Rokosamu is accused of embezzling $2,600 from the maintenance fund that was under her supervision at the Suva Family Court Registry between January and February 2009. Additionally, she is alleged to have forged signatures on the maintenance payment records for three individuals, which enabled her to illegally withdraw about $830 on three separate occasions in 2010.

FICAC lawyer Sameea Nisa represented the prosecution during the proceedings.
