Court Denies Bail Variation Review for Former Attorney General | Hearing Adjourned – SEOoptimized.

The Magistrates Court in Suva has rejected a request to review the bail variation case of former Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum. This case was overseen by Resident Magistrate Yogesh Prasad.

In June, Magistrate Prasad denied Sayed-Khaiyum’s request for a bail variation to travel to Singapore for medical reasons, stating it was not essential, necessary, or urgent.

Suva lawyer Davenesh Sharma had applied for a bail variation in a case where Sayed-Khaiyum is charged alongside former Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and former Health Minister Dr. Neil Sharma.

The Court decided not to rule on a case before Magistrate Prasad, stating that the bail decision made by him is a matter currently before him.

Magistrate Sufia Hamza emphasized that any applications regarding bail issues related to the initial matter need to be addressed by the magistrate handling the case in the Suva Magistrate’s Court, as they will continue to be in charge of the matter.

The case has been adjourned to Monday, August 5, for a hearing of the bail application.

The former Attorney General was excused from attending today’s ruling by the court after falling ill during yesterday’s hearing.
