The State has firmly opposed granting bail to 28-year-old Sairusi Vulakoro, who is facing serious charges, including aggravated burglary and assaulting a police officer. During a recent appearance at the High Court in Suva, Mr. Vulakoro, who is self-employed and married, confirmed his involvement in an incident where he allegedly fled from police custody and attacked an officer in the process.
The events leading to his arrest on May 12 involved police noticing a fresh injury on Mr. Vulakoro’s finger, prompting them to take him to CWM Hospital for treatment. However, while officers were preoccupied with paperwork, he allegedly escaped, leading to further charges against him.
His lawyer, Emosi Radrodro, proposed a bail amount of $2,000 with stringent conditions, but the prosecution argued against this, citing the severity of the allegations. As a result, Mr. Vulakoro remains in custody, with the case rescheduled for a hearing on December 16.
This case highlights the legal system’s response to serious crimes, which aims to prioritize public safety while also ensuring a fair process for the accused. The continued proceedings provide an opportunity for a thorough examination of the circumstances surrounding the incident, aiming to achieve justice for all parties involved.
Summary: Sairusi Vulakoro, 28, faces multiple serious charges. The State opposes his bail due to the severity of the accusations, leading to his remand in custody until a scheduled court date in December.
