A couple has been brought before the Suva Magistrates Court for their alleged involvement in defrauding the Fiji Rugby Union. Former accountant Pawan Deo and his wife Subhashni Mudaliar face charges of conspiracy to defraud, obtaining a gain, and obtaining a financial advantage.
According to court proceedings, Deo, who is the sole owner of Sports Supplies Limited and served as the accountant for the Fiji Rugby Union, is accused of conspiring with his wife to unlawfully acquire $53,788.75 from the union. The alleged crime took place in 2022.
Prosecutors claim that they fraudulently processed payments to Sports Supplies Limited, resulting in an unauthorized gain of $7,291.83 for the company, despite knowing it was ineligible to receive those funds.
The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption reported that the couple appeared in court yesterday and were remanded, with a bail hearing scheduled for today.
