A couple has been brought before the Suva Magistrates Court on charges of defrauding the Fiji Rugby Union. Former accountant for the Fiji Rugby Union, Pawan Deo, and his wife, Subhashni Mudaliar, face charges of conspiracy to defraud, obtaining a gain, and acquiring a financial advantage.

The court was informed that Deo, the owner of Sports Supplies Limited and the accountant for the Fiji Rugby Union, allegedly colluded with his wife to wrongfully obtain $53,788.75 from the organization. The alleged fraudulent activities took place in 2022, during which they are accused of illegally facilitating payments to Sports Supplies Limited, resulting in an unauthorized payment of $7,291.83 to the company despite knowing it was not entitled to that amount.

The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption reported that the couple appeared in court yesterday, where they were remanded. A bail hearing for the case was scheduled for today.
