A couple has appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court facing allegations of defrauding the Fiji Rugby Union. Pawan Deo, the former accountant for the Fiji Rugby Union, and his wife, Subhashni Mudaliar, are each charged with conspiracy to defraud, obtaining a gain, and obtaining a financial advantage.

The court was informed that Deo, who owns Sports Supplies Limited and was serving as the accountant for the Fiji Rugby Union, collaborated with his wife to fraudulently secure $53,788.75 from the organization. The alleged fraud took place in 2022.

It is claimed that they improperly processed payments to Sports Supplies Limited, resulting in the company receiving $7,291.83, despite knowing that it was not entitled to that amount. The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption reported that the couple appeared in court yesterday and have been remanded, with a bail hearing scheduled for today.
