Controversy Surrounding Namosi Development Company Expansion

The chief of Namosi, Ratu Suliano Matanitobua, has asked for forgiveness from the province’s residents due to the lack of clear communication regarding the provincial company’s activities.

The provincial company, Namosi Development Company Ltd (NDCL), was established in 1994 and has now been operating for 30 years.

Initially, the company was intended to be owned by the province. However, it ended up being controlled by only a few shareholders.

This issue was brought up at a Provincial Council Meeting held at Pearl Resort in Pacific Harbour on Thursday last week.

Maciu Katamotu, the Minister for Local Government and a member of the council, inquired about the current management situation of the provincial company.

Katamotu posed the question on behalf of the concerned residents of the province who are eager to know what has been happening.

“We want the company to thrive and generate income. The people need to be assured that if the company is restructured, it should belong to the province,” Katamotu said. “I hope a special meeting will be convened to discuss this issue since the people are anxious and raising concerns.”

Ratu Suliano mentioned that he has been trying for 20 years to establish a committee or think tank to manage the company’s operations. This committee was successfully formed last week, and they will monitor the company’s activities.

While spending two years in the Naboro correctional facility, Ratu Suliano has been devising plans for the provincial company.

He continued by stating that four shareholders initially owned the company, but three have passed away, leaving him as the sole survivor.

“A meeting will be called where an auditor will present the company’s financial plan to the public,” Ratu Suliano concluded.
