Controversy Surrounding $172,000 Chinese Embassy Fund: Village Headman Clarifies

Tiliva Nakasaleka Village headman Jale Duikoro has responded to rumors regarding funds or donations from the Chinese embassy.

There have been widespread allegations on social media suggesting that Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection Lynda Tabuya received $172,000 from the Chinese ambassador for a village development project. Mr. Duikoro clarified last week that these funds are not connected to Ms. Tabuya.

“The $172,000 is intended for village development purposes, specifically for projects such as path construction and restroom improvements,” Mr. Duikoro stated.

“We are aware of speculations claiming it was a private donation. These funds were managed directly between the Chinese government and the Tiliva Development Committee; they were not received privately by her.”

Ms. Tabuya said, “The village development committee had liaised directly with them, and I was not involved in any way. The process was transparent and straightforward.

“I am not a member of nor involved with the development committee.”
