Controversy Surrounding $172,000 Chinese Embassy Donation: What Really Happened?

Tiliva Nakasaleka Village headman Jale Duikoro has addressed rumors about funds or donations from the Chinese embassy.

Allegations widely circulating on social media claim that Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection Lynda Tabuya received $172,000 from the Chinese ambassador for a village development project. Mr. Duikoro clarified last week that the funds have no connection to Ms. Tabuya.

“The $172,000 is for village development purposes, specifically for projects like path construction and restroom improvements,” Mr. Duikoro said.

“We are aware of speculations alleging it was a private donation. These funds were managed directly between the Chinese government and the Tiliva Development Committee; they were not received privately by her.”

Ms. Tabuya stated yesterday, “The village development committee had liaised directly with them, and I was not involved in any way. The process was transparent and straightforward.

“I am not a member of nor involved with the development committee.”
