Krishnil Mudaliar was visibly emotional after losing to Junior Binnu Singh in a controversial points decision for the WBF Australasian featherweight title at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka, on Saturday night. The former bantamweight and super featherweight champion expressed his belief that the decision was unjust, stating, “This is daylight robbery and this decision needs to be reviewed.”
Throughout the match, Mudaliar utilized his reach advantage to effectively land jabs and control the fight. He asserted, “The commission needs to review and then declare the correct winner. I should be ahead on the scorecard. He (Binnu) never won any round; from round one to eight, it was all my rounds.” However, judges Fatu Tuimanono, Jone Loloma, and Rahul Sami scored the bout 77-72, 78-72, and 77-75, respectively, all in favor of Singh.
Prior to the fight, Mudaliar had emphasized the importance of fairness from the ring officials. Following the match, he expressed a willingness to face Singh again for the title, urging the commission to arrange a rematch.
In response, Singh shared his intention to pursue a fight against an overseas opponent and dedicated his victory to his late grandfather, Jaswant Singh, who had passed away the previous week. He noted, “He was my dad’s father and he was not a boxer but a great motivator in my career. This win is for him.” Singh confirmed that he would be competing in the November program under Bluewater Boxing Promotion.
