Confident Kicks: Labasa’s Hero in Championship Penalty Showdown

Christopher Wasasala, the key penalty taker for Labasa in the 2024 FMF Inter District Championship (IDC), expressed his confidence in scoring during the final match against Navua. The 29-year-old military officer revealed that he did not anticipate the match heading to penalties, but decided to step up for the decisive kick.

“I had missed a penalty in the semifinal, and I was determined to rectify that in the final and silence my critics,” he shared. Wasasala emphasized his confidence, telling his teammates that he would take the final shot.

He recalled the moment before the kick, saying, “I quickly said a small prayer and looked up for guidance.” After successfully scoring, he described the experience as a magical moment, marking it as a highlight of his career with Labasa.

Looking ahead, Wasasala confirmed he will continue with the Babasiga Lions next season, aiming to guide and mentor younger strikers within the team. He is now preparing for the upcoming Sukuna Bowl challenge next month in Suva, where he will compete for the RFMF soccer team against the Fiji Police Force.
