Concerns Raised Over Management of Namosi Development Company

The head of Namosi, Ratu Suliano Matanitobua, has extended an apology to the people of the province over the lack of clear communication regarding the provincial company, Namosi Development Company Ltd (NDCL).

The company, established in 1994, has been running for 30 years now. Initially, the company was set up with the intention of being owned by the province. However, this has not been the case, as only a few individuals have been the company’s shareholders.

This discussion was brought up during a provincial meeting held at the Pearl Resort, Pacific Harbour, on Thursday this week.

The Minister for Infrastructure and member of the provincial council, Maciu Katamotu, raised questions about the management and operations of the provincial company. Katamotu voiced these concerns on behalf of the people of the province who are worried about the current situation.

“We want the company to prosper and generate income. The people need assurance on whether the company will undergo restructuring to ensure it is owned by the province,” said Katamotu. He expressed hope for an urgent meeting to address these issues, recognizing the community’s concerns and questions.

Ratu Suliano revealed that he has been working for 20 years to establish a committee or think tank for the province, dedicated to overseeing the company’s operations. This committee was finally formed last week and is now set to manage the company’s affairs.

Despite spending two years in correctional facilities at Naboro, Ratu Suliano has been planning the future of the provincial company. He noted that four of the company’s shareholders have passed away, leaving him as the sole surviving shareholder.

“In the near future, a meeting will be called for an auditor to present the company’s financial plans to the people,” added Ratu Suliano.
